Voice teaching philosophy |
||
I recognize and appreciate the fact that every student is a unique person with a distinct set of goals, interests, abilities, and ways of learning. I strive to approach each student as an individual and approach teaching in as many different ways as I have students in order to help all of them be their best and reach their goals. The ideal vocal sound to me is one that is beautiful, free, rich, present, and resonant. While recognizing that every voice is different, I try to help every singer produce a sound I can describe with these words. To accomplish this, I work with student’s posture and breath, help them use healthy and efficient vocal function, and work with space and vowels to achieve optimal resonance. I try to help my students sing with freedom and ease and eliminate excess tension. Besides vocal technique, I help students with musical skills, diction, interpretation, acting and presentation. I help students apply things they learn to other areas of their life when appropriate. I try to treat each student fairly, selflessly and professionally, and I always find that I learn from the students I teach. |
